National Parks Loop - 16 Days
Our National Parks Loop adventure bus tour explores the best of everything the American West has to offer! See the Grand Canyon, Zion, Yellowstone, and many more national parks on this awesome, affordable camping adventure. Not only do we hike and camp in the well known destinations, but we enjoy some of the west's best kept secrets!
Our ultimate summer backpacking and camping holiday begins with a day of exploring in South Lake Tahoe. This popular spot offers plenty of activity options; from hiking in the gorgeous backcountry to spending the day roaming the lakeshore or browsing local shops and eateries.
The Ruby Mountains of Northern Nevada beckon, luring us to hike to the glacier-carved lakes of Lamoille Canyon. We'll enjoy our first gourmet Green Tortoise dinner together near a cascading waterfall. In Jackson Hole, you'll have the option to raft the class III rapids of Snake River or take a self-guided hike beneath some of the most distinctive mountain peaks on earth.
At Grand Teton National Park, hike the Paintbrush Canyon or stroll to the base of Hidden Falls. In Yellowstone, discover a wilderness so incredible it was named the world's first national park in order to preserve it. Catch the spectacular eruptions of Old Faithful and other geysers, view Yellowstone Falls from Artist Point, and watch for bison grazing in the surrounding meadows.
Our next pursuit is Antelope Island in Utah. Try to catch a glimpse of buffalo, bighorn sheep or antelope on the Great Salt Lake's biggest island. Before we head to the Southwest's glorious Grand Circle, we get the chance to visit Salt Lake City. At Kodachrome Basin State Park, sedimentary pipes colorfully rising above the desert valley provide a view of unparalleled scenery.
In Zion National Park, trek along the Angel's Landing Trail for breathtaking views of Zion Canyon's sheer sandstone cliffs. Then, take an optional inner tube ride down the Virgin River. At Bryce Canyon, take the Rim Trail or the Fairyland Trail to view the bizarre wind-sculpted hoodoos of Bryce Amphitheater. In the evening, hop into a clawfoot tub to soak and relax under the stars at our favorite hot springs.
Traveling on to Arches National Park, hike the Devil's Garden trail past eight of the park's best known features, including Landscape Arch. For the ultimate Western experience, take a horseback ride or a jeep tour through the rugged desert-and-mesa landscape of Monument Valley.
Escape the desert heat with a cool plunge into Lake Powell or take the opportunity to enjoy a guided trip through the otherworldly, wavy walls of Antelope Canyon.
Our extended stay at the Grand Canyon can be spent hiking a vertical mile to the bottom of the canyon to camp near the Colorado River. Some may walk along the South Rim to Hermit's Rest for a taste of wilderness solitude. The awe-inspiring depth and breadth of the canyon can take your breath away.
Check out a classic slice of small-town America on legendary Route 66. Finish your adventure in style with a night out on the Las Vegas Strip. End your trip there or keep the fun going and ride with us for an early morning drop off in Los Angeles.*
On the final day of the trip, take a ferry ride to Channel Islands National Park to see the endemic plants and animals thriving on the archipelago. This is your chance to see one of America's best kept national park secrets. Later on, you'll enjoy a classic California beach town experience in Santa Barbara before boarding the bus with all of your new friends to head back to San Francisco.
