This is it — the jackpot! On this amazing adventure you'll see the best and most exciting parts of the Southwest and West Coast of America. Explore the highlights of Yosemite, kick-back on sandy California beaches, be dazzled in the bright lights of Los Angeles, Hollywood and Las Vegas, hike deep into the Grand Canyon, journey into the red rock wonderland of Zion and Bryce, horseback ride through Monument Valley — and more. This trip is full of spectacular sights and is still budget-friendly and affordable!
We start our adventure socializing with our new travel friends during an evening departure from San Francisco. Before long, you'll be rocked to sleep in our custom lounge-style bus; traveling at night ensures the most time at our destinations!
Wake up to a delicious breakfast and begin the day in Yosemite Valley, the home of the famous El Capitan and Half Dome rock formations. Strong hikers can head up the Mist Trail and get up close to two thundering waterfalls, or to the top of the falls via the Yosemite Falls Trailhead for a stunning view.
The second day of our adventure takes us to the meadows and domes of the High Sierra. Explore Tuolumne Meadows, Lembert Dome, and the Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias. After another eventful day, we’ll enjoy a gourmet cookout together before hitting up California’s oldest saloon and rolling west through the night.
Next up is the legendary Pacific Coast Highway stopping at the coastal town of Half Moon Bay before we hit the beach in Santa Cruz. Make sure to check out the Surfing Museum or test your courage on the Giant Dipper, the fifth oldest roller coaster in the U.S. Further south, in Monterey, stroll along John Steinbeck's beloved Cannery Row, spend time at Fisherman's Wharf, or pay a visit to the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Afterwards, we'll head for our campsite under the Coastal Redwoods of Big Sur.
Today we'll enjoy some time at San Simeon State Park — take a tour of opulent Hearst Castle, hike through the surrounding wetlands, sea kayak, or just relax on the beach! Later, we make our way to our campsite just north of Malibu for a sunset over the Pacific Ocean and another delectable group dinner.
On our final day on the coast, check out surfers and cliffside mansions along the Pacific Coast Highway as we roll into Los Angeles and head towards Hollywood for time at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Walk of Fame, and the Kodak Theatre. You also have the option of continuing on with the bus to Venice Beach for shopping and ogling the muscle-bound in their outdoor gym before heading to your hostel for the night.
We'll be recuperating from our night in the city with a visit to Joshua Tree National Park. Hike the Wonderland of Rocks Trail or go bouldering, keeping an eye out for the whimsical trees for which the park was named. At our campsite under the stars, enjoy a group cookout and share your favorite adventure around the campfire.
Rise and shine — it's time to travel on Historic U.S. Route 66 and traverse the arid Mojave Desert as we head to the Grand Canyon West Rim. Walk on the famous glass Skywalk above the the plummeting depths of the Grand Canyon, take an optional helicopter tour, have your photo taken on a point with dramatic panoramic views of the canyon, or learn about Native American culture at a Hualapai Village. Later, a night out in glittering Las Vegas is sure to please.
In Zion National Park, trek along the Angel's Landing Trail for breathtaking views of Zion Canyon's sheer sandstone cliffs. Then, take an optional inner tube ride down the Virgin River. At Bryce Canyon, take the Rim Trail or the Fairyland Trail to view the bizarre wind-sculpted hoodoos of Bryce Amphitheater. In the evening, hop into a clawfoot tub to soak and relax under the stars at our favorite hot springs.
Traveling on to Arches National Park, hike the Devil's Garden trail past eight of the park's best known features, including Landscape Arch. For the ultimate Western experience, take a horseback ride or a jeep tour through the rugged desert-and-mesa landscape of Monument Valley.
Escape the desert heat with a cool plunge into Lake Powell or take the opportunity to enjoy a guided trip through the otherworldly, wavy walls of Antelope Canyon.
Our stay at the Grand Canyon can be spent hiking a vertical mile to the bottom of the canyon to camp near the Colorado River. Some may walk along the South Rim to Hermit's Rest for a taste of wilderness solitude. The awe-inspiring depth and breadth of the canyon can take your breath away.
Check out a classic slice of small-town America on legendary Route 66. Finish your adventure in style with a night out on the Las Vegas Strip.
On the final day of the trip, take a ferry ride to Channel Islands National Park to see the endemic plants and animals thriving on the archipelago. This is your chance to see one of America's best kept national park secrets. Later on, you'll enjoy a classic California beach town experience in Santa Barbara before boarding the bus with all of your new friends to head back to San Francisco.
