An Alaskan camping adventure through the expansive wilderness! Venture deep into Denali National Park. Nature lovers won’t want to miss this chance to spot wildlife, blooming wildflowers and endless tundra landscapes!  Take the opportunity to trek on a glacier! Explore the quaint towns of Girdwood and Hope.  Top it off with a visit to Kenai Fjords National Park and lovely Seward. Don’t wait to experience the Last Frontier’s pure wilderness!

Day 1

Meet the Green Tortoise bus in Fairbanks; the land of the midnight sun! Your Alaska camping adventure begins with a trip to Denali National Park!  The sprawling tundra is our playground!  Venture out on the marvelous trails from the park’s visitor center, take a ranger-led hike or embark on a bus journey deep into the park.  Don’t miss the chance to see moose, bears, caribou, foxes and Dall sheep in their natural habitat! You have an opportunity to go on a whitewater rafting adventure through the picturesque landscape on the Nenana River.  However you choose to spend your stay, you’re guaranteed to take away treasured memories of the raw beauty and trackless wilderness stretching beneath “The Great One!”

Day 2

Today, we’ll bid farewell to “The Great One” and continue our expedition south towards the Cook Inlet. Enjoy a scenic ride as the St. Elias Mountain Range reveals itself; the highest coastal mountain range on Earth. By the evening, we’ll be contemplating natural history at the face of the Matanuska Glacier.

Day 3

Set foot on the magnificent Matanuska Glacier. An Alaska camping adventure wouldn’t be complete without the chance to feel an ancient valley glacier under your feet!  An optional guided trip with local outfitters gives you access to some of the more remote and spectacular sites. 

This afternoon, an opportunity to visit the Alaska Native Cultural Center gives you a window into the world of the Dena’ina Athabascan Tribe. By the evening, you’ll be exploring the outdoor adventure enthusiast’s paradise of Girdwood.

Day 4

Girdwood provides endless opportunities for adventure!  Stretch your legs on a morning hike up Mount Alyeska with the chance to ride the gondola back down.  Explore the remarkable rainforest on the Winner Creek Trail to take in the aromatic and unique atmosphere.  Perhaps you’ll settle into the spa at the Alyeska Resort. In the afternoon, be on the lookout for mountain goats or beluga whales as we travel around Turnagain Arm towards the charming town of Hope

Day 5

With its old gold-rush style and friendly inhabitants, Hope is a great little town for strolling. There are a number of good hikes here, either along the shores of Turnagain Arm, or up the nearby ridge for spectacular views. If you want to get wet ‘n’ wild, some of the best whitewater rafting in Alaska is available here on Six-Mile Creek.  A journey along the Seward Highway brings us to our waterside campsite beneath the massive Mount Marathon.

Day 6

Today’s destination is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park.  In Seward, your options include a cruise or kayaking tour on Resurrection Bay with chances to see humpback whales, porpoise, or orcas. You may choose to take a hike for incredible views over the Exit Glacier at Kenai Fjords National Park.  Explore the quaint downtown and get to know the life underwater at the Alaska SeaLife Center or visit the Seward Museum for a dive into cultural history.

Day 7

The rugged mountains surrounding Seward are the backdrop for our final breakfast together.  Reminisce about your incredible journey as we head for Anchorage on the scenic drive along the Seward Highway.  This evening, we say “See you next time!”

You’ll be traveling in a custom, comfortable sleeper coach! 

A sleeping bag and sleeping pad are required for this adventure.  If you don’t have one, rent one from us upon booking!  

A tent is required.  On most occasions you are welcome to sleep on the bus or sleep beneath the stars.  However, a tent is required for nights the bus is not available, as well as privacy and comfort. You may rent a tent from us (subject to availability).

Our coaches are equipped with a camp kitchen.  No need to bring your own cookware or utensils.  Bring a reusable lunch container to store your packed lunch and a reusable water bottle.

Once you’re booked, you will receive a detailed packing list in your e-ticket.
